Beaumaris, Anglesey and Snowdonia
Beaumaris, Anglesey is the perfect location for a
short or long break. The historic and charming town of Beaumaris
came into being by a Royal Charter from King Edward 1 in 1296, at
the same time Edward built the World Heritage site of Beaumaris
Castle.
For many years, indeed as far back as Tudor times, Beaumaris
merchants carried out the function of middle men. Goods were brought
in from around the world and then repacked and shipped on to the
mainland, this would often be to the port of Liverpool. |
|
|
The town was also the Anglesey end of the ferry
point from the mainland and on the route of the London to Holyhead
and Ireland road system. Hotels like the old Liverpool Arms were the
setting for resting overnight on the road to Ireland and the
cementing of various trade deals.
Over the years and with the building of the
Suspension Bridge at Menai Bridge the town of Beaumaris became less
important as a trading centre but holiday makers discovered its
charms and the Victorians soon flocked here for the boating and the
scenery. One of our busy periods coincides with the Regatta still
held on the Menai Straits and hosted by The Royal Anglesey Yacht
Club.
The town and sea front with its wonderful views
across the Menai Straits to the mountains of Snowdonia is made for
strolling or sitting and soaking in the calm. A magical little town
that has the knack of capturing people's hearts - the number who
have visited and then decided to settle here is quite surprising.
The Isle of Anglesey is worth exploring by foot, bike or car. Most
corners hide treasures. The beaches are marvellous and the views
stunning.
Within ten minutes drive you can be in the Snowdonia National Park.
The park contains some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain -
a treasure trove for walkers, strollers, in fact anyone wishing to
relax and recharge the batteries.
Make Beaumaris and The Liverpool Arms your central
point for a unique break in one of Britain's prettiest areas. |
